CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Police officers shot a gunman who was allegedly firing at them in a Charlotte neighborhood street early Thursday morning, officials said.
The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. on Aug. 28 on , not far off Highway 74.
Deputy Chief Ryan Butler said that officers were called to the neighborhood after a family member reported that a man was “acting erratically.” While on the phone with 911 operators, that family member also indicated that the man was possibly armed and was outside in the street.
When police got to Pineborough Road, Butler said the officers pulled up behind the man’s car. At that point, the man allegedly started shooting at the officers. They returned fire and hit the man. Butler said they then immediately began life-saving efforts.
