CALERA, Okla. (KTEN) -- The Choctaw Nation has spent hundreds of years sharing stories. But sometimes, it’s the voices we don’t hear that share the most powerful words.
At the 21st Annual Choctaw Labor Day Art Show, Ross Ridge’s colored pencil drawing of a girl modeled after his daughter Jordan hung near a statue symbolizing the missing and murdered Indigenous people whose stories remain untold.
“I just want to help people feel what might be going through the minds of those people this has happened to,” Choctaw artist Ross Ridge said.
The red handprint— a symbol of the missing and murdered Indigenous people— had faded, symbolizing their legacy slipping through the cracks.
“The red is fading, along with their message, 'cause the girls are already gone,” Ridge said.
