NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WTNH) — The New Haven catholic community is heartbroken after a shooting in Minnesota left two young children dead and several others injured Wednesday.

"This was humanly, extremely tragic,” Bill Kinnare, a parishioner at St. Joseph Church in New Haven said.

The shooting was a shock to everyone, especially those headed to Wednesday evening mass.

"Of course, for the entire catholic community here in New Haven, this is a great tragedy, a terrible tragedy,” Father Joseph MacNeill, the Yale University chaplain said. “I myself was deeply moved when I heard the news."

Fr. MacNeill said that he spoke on the tragedy in his evening sermon as it's a shooting that hits close to home.
