Like many programs in the state Waterloo Columbus has put in the work to prepare for a successful 2025 season. The Sailors return of majority of the players who experienced some hard knocks last fall. After finishing 2023 just one win shy of the state football championship game Columbus only won one game in 2023.

Coach Brad Schmit, "There were pockets of each game where we competed. We couldn't compete for the 4 quarters. We had a lot of underclassmen without a lot of experience."

42 football players on the Columbus preseason roster including quarterback Amani Robinson who started every game of the Sailors last fall. Robinson is talented big and strong with a live arm and after last year's trials and tribulation, Schmitt says Robinson has also learned how to lead.
