The family of Salford 'Mr Big' Paul Massey say he has been 'given a voice' following a 10-year fight for an inquest into his death to be held.

On Wednesday (August 27), it was confirmed a full coronial investigation would be carried out . Following a decade-long campaign for answers, Massey's family said: "We're finally being listened to."

A full hearing - examining the circumstances leading to Massey's 'carefully planned and meticulously-executed assassination' and alleged police failures to protect him from threats on his life - will be held next year.

Senior coroner Timothy Brennand said the inquiry would look into whether there were any 'acts or omissions on the part of the state in responding to any identified real and immediate risk to life', and, if so, the consequences.
