VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A special meeting Wednesday shed more light on the 110% jump in health insurance premiums for employees of Virginia Beach City Public Schools, but there was no immediate solutions amid a lawsuit against the superintendent seeking to eliminate the increase.

Virginia Beach educators and the school board Wednesday got to have their first face-to-face since learning about the massive jump in health insurance premiums expected to take place Jan. 1, 2026.

Some board members say the costs of health care just continues to rise, placing the school division in a tough position. Possible mitigation efforts were discussed — one that would reduce the health insurance premium increase to 75% would cost $2.3 million, while slashing the increase further, to 50%, would cost $
