EL CENTRO — At Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting, Imperial County Fire Chief David Lantzer asked for an emergency proclamation, which was approved, following a severe storm Sunday and Monday that caused a tremendous amount of damage all across the county.
Lantzer showed the supervisors short videos of some of the damage, including several streets that were flooded and impassable.
He said they were fortunate there were no injuries or deaths but added there were several close calls.
Two people were trapped in a car with power lines on top of the vehicle, Lantzer said.
“We had a couple of scares but were able to confirm there were no injuries,” he said.
He said Highways 86 and Highway Interstate 8 and Bonds Corner were flooded and power poles were knocked down by the strong winds.
