CLEVELAND, Ohio — Troopers shot a man Wednesday near the campus of Case Western Reserve University, prompting the school to issue a shelter-in-place alert, authorities said.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., the university sent messages on social media that it had received reports of a possible police shooting near Lot 1 and Case Quad.

Less than an hour later, officials lifted the alert, as authorities had made arrests.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers shot a man on Martin Luther King Drive, Sgt. Ryan Purpura said in a statement. Cleveland police officers, who also responded, are conducting the investigation, the statement said.

As of 7:15 p.m., police were still seen collecting evidence in the courtyard between Tomlinson and Crawford halls. Shortly after, officers brought out a K-9 unit.
