A castle that sits on a remote island has been put on the market for £750,000. The Category A listed Kinloch Castle, on the Isle of Rum in Scotland, is now up for grabs by the country's nature agency after research revealed most locals agree it should be sold and brought back into use.

NatureScot owns the property but faces substantial annual upkeep costs, with a sale considered to be the only feasible route to secure the necessary investment levels.

Constructed between 1897 and 1901 for Sir George Bullough, the castle was purchased in 1957 by the Nature Conservancy Council, which later became Scottish Natural Heritage and is now known as NatureScot.

A hostel operating within the castle shut down in 2013, before property tours ceased in 2020 because of the pandemic.
