UK tourists travelling to Portugal in the coming months could face disruption at airports as ground handling staff threaten to walk out from September until the start of 2026.

A strike notice has been issued by Metallurgical and Related Industries Union (SIMA) at ground handling company Menzies. The notice covers September 3 until January 2, 2026, covering all national airports, Portuguese news site Publico reports.

All of Portugal's main airports are set to be affected, including popular destinations among Brits such as Faro, Lisbon, Porto and Madeira.

The notice states that strikes will take place in alternating periods between September 3 and January 2, 2026. It includes busy travel periods like long weekends, bank holidays, Christmas and New Year.
