For Allison Fegley Johnson and Robert Warren, it's not uncommon to get an odd request from a performer. Some, the leaders at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, can't even fulfill. And others, are downright peculiar.

The historic event venue has housed all-star performances, from bands like Styx to comedians like Dave Chappelle.

"We really shifted from begging for a fill date to being one of the anchors on a 20-stop tour," Warren, the organization's CEO said. "Like Lyle Lovett said, 'Everybody should play this room.'"

But, before a performer shows up, venues like Hoyt Sherman have to be prepared to fulfill the artist's rider, a part of their contract that spells out everything a performer needs at the venue.
