NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio — A 40-year-old Amish woman has been charged with two counts of aggravated murder after she was accused of throwing her 4-year-old son into a lake in what was part of a “test of faith.”

Authorities say Ruth R. Miller, 40, of Millersburg, Ohio, told investigators she believed she was acting at the direction of God when she allegedly killed her son Vincen at Atwood Lake in Tuscarawas County early Saturday.

The New York Times reports the second murder charge was added against Miller because her son was younger than 13 years old.

Miller also is charged with two counts of domestic violence and one count of endangering children, according to the Times Reporter .
