STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Labor Day, observed on the first Monday of September each year, is fast approaching.

A federal holiday, it marks the unofficial end of summer and honors the social and economic contributions of American workers.

Most businesses, government offices, and schools are closed, providing a day off for many employees across the country on Labor Day, Sept. 1, 2025.

Retail stores may have special sales but typically still remain open, while post offices and banks generally close.
