Alicia Vikander has conceded that her film The Danish Girl now feels “ extremely dated” a decade on from its original release.

The Swedish star won an Oscar for her supporting role in the historical drama, which told the story of Lili Elbe, who was one of the first trans women in history to undergo gender-affirming surgery.

During a recent interview with British Vogue , Alicia said that around the release of The Danish Girl in 2015, the film felt like “a pivot” in that meant issues relating to the lives of transgender people were being “at least discussed”.

“ I hope that in a way it was a bit of an eye-opener and opened the way for art to cover those themes,” she claimed.
