A man has been jailed after he threatened to stab a member of the public with a kitchen knife. Police were called to Market Square, in Cambridge, after receiving reports of a man with a knife on September 8, 2024.

James Cripps, 45, waved a kitchen knife around before threatening to stab a member of the public with it. A Cambridge City Council worker who saw Cripps with the knife managed to talk to him, convincing him to hand the knife over until police arrived.

Officers arrested Cripps shortly afterwards. He was taken to Parkside Police Station.

On Wednesday (August 26) at Cambridge Crown Court, Cripps, of no fixed abode, was jailed for seven months. He had pleaded guilty to possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a knife, and using threatening behaviour with intent to cause
