ST. LOUIS — A man accused of killing an off-duty campus policeman after mistaking him for a rival gang member was released from jail this week after posting bond.

Brandon M. Levy was freed Monday after posting a $5,000 cash bond. Levy, 46, was charged Saturday in the 2008 killing of Demond Taylor.

Judge Michael Noble originally ordered that Levy be held without bond. But at a bond review hearing Monday, Associate circuit judge Michael Colona set bond at $50,000, with 10% allowed.

Taylor, 34, worked as a campus police officer for St. Louis Community College- Florissant Valley. He was off-duty, driving to pick up his sons, when he was fatally shot on June 20, 2008.
