STATEWIDE — DRIVERS TRAVELING DURING THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND won’t have to deal with construction-related lane closures on New York state highways, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced on Thursday, Aug. 28.

Temporary lane closures for road and bridge construction jobs are suspended from 6 a.m. Friday, Aug. 29, to 6 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 2. The construction suspension aligns with New York state’s Drivers First Initiative, which prioritizes the convenience of motorists to minimize traffic congestion and travel delays due to road and bridge work.

Gov. Hochul also pointed out that the suspension of lane closures during a weekend of increased traffic also protects the safety of highway workers, including those in unions, during a holiday that honors the ideals of the labor movement.
