A 43-year-old Kitchener man faces several charges after a Guelph Police officer was assaulted during a traffic stop.
Guelph police said the incident occurred Thursday, at approximately 2:40 a.m., when an officer patrolling Silvercreek Parkway South found a man slumped over behind the wheel of a vehicle.
The officer took the man out of the vehicle, police said, but the officer was shoved, enabling the man to get back into his vehicle and drive off.
The officer followed the man for more than a kilometre before coming to a stop in a plaza parking lot. The man refused to get out of the vehicle, police said, so officers smashed a window to remove him.
