The late Buster Clegg, a former executive with the Providence Reds and longtime hockey advocate, was recently inducted into the RI Hockey Hall of Fame as part of its Class of 2025.
The longtime Barrington resident served as publicity director and then general manager of the AHL’s RI Reds hockey team. He later helped co-found both the East Providence and Barrington youth hockey organizations and, in 2000, he founded the RI Reds Heritage Society.
Clegg grew up in Burrillville, was an All-State defenseman on the Broncos hockey team. He attended the University of New Hampshire and was voted team captain.
In 2023, he was awarded the RI Hockey Hall of Fame’s prestigious Malcolm Greene Chace Trophy for “Lifetime Contributions of a Rhode Islander to the game of Hockey.”
