EAST LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A driver was apprehended Thursday morning after leading authorities on a high-speed chase and abandoning a car under a freeway interchange in the East Los Angeles area.
By 11:15 a.m., the pursuit had been active for at least 30 minutes as the suspect sped along surface streets as a Los Angeles County sheriff's helicopter gave chase overhead.
California Highway Patrol and LASD patrol vehicles were intermittently in pursuit on the ground.
At 11:19 .m., the suspect drove the sedan onto a dirt road and stopped under an overpass at a freeway interchange. The driver abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot but was quickly taken into custody.
The circumstances that prompted the chase were not immediately known.
