OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WMBB) – On Wednesday, the Crestview Police Department sent notice that officers who had manslaughter charges dropped yesterday will return to work on September 2.
An Okaloosa grand jury indicted officers Brandon Hardaway, William Johns, and Evan Reynolds after it found probable cause in connection with the death of Calvin Wilks Jr. on October 14, 2021.
Wilks died at North Okaloosa Medical Center a day after police responded to an early morning welfare check.
Following Wilks’ death, the Crestview Police Department issued a release stating officers had watched the victim turn from initially calm to “highly agitated,” and that he had become erratic enough that a stun gun was used to subdue him.
