The 146th season of Michigan football opens on Saturday against New Mexico (7:36 p.m. ET, NBC). If you’re unfamiliar with the Lobos, don’t feel bad: Michigan has never played them and their football history is lacking.
But all season openers are exciting, and New Mexico brings a new coach and revamped roster to Michigan Stadium.
New New Mexico
For the third straight season, New Mexico has a new head coach. Coaching changes, especially that many in a short time, lead to roster turnover. Sure enough, New Mexico has the fewest returning players in FBS (34) and the most total newcomers (75).
“It’s nuts,” Michigan coach Sherrone Moore said about New Mexico’s overhaul. “Absolutely nuts.”
