As Republican lawmakers in North Carolina remained hell-bent on resuscitating a bill that makes it easier to obtain a lethal weapon than to get a driver’s license, more young children were dying in another school shooting, this time in Minneapolis.

Armed with a pistol, a shotgun and a semi-automatic rifle, the young shooter barricaded the doors of Annunciation Catholic Church and School from the outside Wednesday morning and then fired through stained-glass windows into the sanctuary as children and adults were praying.

For two long, horrifying minutes, worshippers ducked into corners and cowered under pews as bullets flew. Some older children used their bodies to protect younger ones.
