A 39-year-old Port Colborne man has been charged for a fatal winter collision involving a pedestrian.

On the afternoon of Feb. 7, Niagara Regional Police were called to the area of Welland and Bell streets in that city after a woman was struck by a van.

Police said the van was westbound on Bell Street when it made a left-hand turn onto Welland and struck the woman.

The woman, for whom police have not released a name or age, was airlifted to an out-of-region hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police said she died of those injuries.

On Thursday, detectives charged the driver with careless driving causing death. His name was not made public.
