COLUMBUS, Ohio — A 45-year-old man was arrested Thursday and charged with murder after a shooting in west Columbus earlier this month, police said.

According to the Columbus Division of Police, Joshua Bays was arrested by SWAT officers for allegedly shooting and killing 56-year-old Thomas Smith.

The shooting happened on Aug. 14 in the 1200 block of West Broad Street.

Columbus police were called around 1:40 p.m. on a report of a shooting where they found Smith unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.

Smith was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead three days later.

Investigators said Bays was seen fleeing the area on a bicycle, identified by surveillance cameras and other means, according to an affidavit.

Bays is set to be arraigned on Aug. 29.
