NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Although nearly 900 miles separate Nashville from Minneapolis, a recent school shooting at Annunciation Catholic School has struck painfully close to home for one Middle Tennessee family.

A local parishioner at St. Stephen Catholic Community in Old Hickory is among those directly affected after her niece, a student at the Minnesota school, was struck by gunfire when bullets shattered the stained-glass windows of the building.

Patty Martorelli, an active member of St. Stephen, confirmed her niece was injured in the shooting and was rushed to a nearby hospital. In a statement to local media, Martorelli said her niece is now in stable condition and recovering well.

“Doctors are very encouraged by her progress and expect her to make a full recovery,” she said.
