Hamilton County Schools is considering a new plan to make housing more affordable for teachers and staff while increasing recruitment and retention. The district is working with nonprofit housing developer Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise (CNE) to explore creating an employee housing complex. The Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise invests in and develops mixed-income communities, including single-family homes, small-scale, multi-unit homes and apartment buildings. The complex would be on the same property as the “Teachers Place” building on West 40th Street, formerly known as Lookout Junior High School.
