First responders in Berrien County are being engaged in discussions about how to handle active violence, mass casualty situations.

Speaking to the Berrien County Board of Commissioners Thursday, Commissioner Jim Curran said the Administration Committee has been talking to 911, police, EMS, and fire agencies about situations like the school shooting in Minnesota this week.

“I think for a lot of things, we are well prepared,” Curran said. “ For this, we are probably not as prepared as we should be. And so the 911 and this committee has taken active role to go through all the protocols for if there is a mass incident, what does everybody do?”
