NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) - A federal immigration judge has opened the door for a New Haven teenager detained by ICE to return home.

18-year-old Esdrás Zabaleta-Ramirez was detained by ICE in July after a workplace raid at a local car wash.

Zabaleta-Ramirez, a Wilbur Cross High School student, was meant to start his junior year. Instead, he spent more than a month in ICE custody at a Massachusetts detention center.

Earlier today, a federal immigration judge granted bond for Esdrás.

On Friday, community leaders, including Mayor Justin Elicker and the superintendent of New Haven Public Schools, will gather at Wilbur Cross High School at 11:30 a.m. to share updates and express solidarity.
