KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - In the courtyard of the Unified Government Municipal Building, hundreds stood Thursday night to grieve the loss of a Kansas City, Kansas police officer killed in the line of duty and to honor his commitment to serve.

Officer Hunter Simoncic died Tuesday, August 26, after being run over by a man trying to elude a police chase. Simoncic was throwing stop sticks onto the road when police say the man intentionally drove into him.

Beneath a flag draped from one side of the street to another were motorcycle units from the neighboring Johnson County agencies and beyond.
