As college students return to the classroom, those who want to learn a little more about the state they’re studying in will soon have a great opportunity to do so.

The Mississippi Department of Archives and History announced that Sept. 2-5 is “College Welcome Week” at the Two Mississippi Museums in Jackson, meaning students get in free of charge with proof of a student ID.

The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum and the Museum of Mississippi History opened in 2017 in celebration of the state’s bicentennial and are administered by MDAH. The Mississippi Civil Rights Museum explores the period from 1945 to 1976 when the state was considered ground zero for the national civil rights movement.
