Crews continued to make progress Friday against the Pickett Fire in Napa County, bringing its containment to 41% after it burned 6,803 acres over the past eight days, Cal Fire said.
The blaze, which began Aug. 21 north of Calistoga, has destroyed five structures but caused no reported injuries or deaths, Cal Fire said in its update at 5:46 a.m. Friday. Its cause remains under investigation.
More than 2,400 personnel supported by helicopters, bulldozers and engines are working to strengthen control lines and mop up smoldering fuels in steep terrain. Officials said clear skies and higher humidity have helped efforts.
