Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signing of legislation last Thursday scheduling a November election to redistrict California hadn’t even been announced when I picked up the mail and found a flyer about how he was “weakening our democratic process.”

Paid for by Protect Voters First, and sponsored by Hold Politicians Accountable, the four-page mailer that I got at noon last Thursday stated Newsom’s efforts were “weakening our democratic process” and a threat to the state’s Landmark Election Reform, which relies on an independent redistricting commission to adjust voting districts every 10 years.

I don’t like the thought of a special election to gerrymander California and make it even more “blue,” even though I’m a Democrat. As much as I disagree with those Republican residents who seem to have flocked
