BELL COUNTY, Texas — Bell County is now accepting applications for its newly approved Community Outreach Coordinator position at the animal shelter, marking the first step toward addressing the facility's high euthanization rates and staffing issues.

The position opening follows the Bell County Commissioners unanimous approval of funding after months of heated debate and criticism led to the harassment of animal control employees.

Bell County Sheriff Bill Cooke had requested the appointment of a new coordinator position in an effort to reduce euthanization rates.

"The outreach rescue coordinator, it is my understanding, will be focused on getting our animals that are in our control, try to deliver those animals to wanting homes and to lower our euthanasia rate," Cooke told commissio
