DE PERE, Wis. (WBAY) - A vehicle hit an elementary school student while in the crosswalk Friday morning, the Unified School District of De Pere confirmed.

The school district said the Dickinson Elementary student was walking at the intersection of Jordan Road/Merrill Street/Ontario Street. The City of De Pere Fire and Rescue Department responded quickly, the child was taken to a local hospital for observation, and is now at home.

A crossing guard was present at the intersection. Classroom teachers and student services staff at Dickinson took time Friday morning to discuss the incident, and review safety reminders.

The District said it’s looking at options for partnering with the City of De Pere to further support safe crossings at this challenging intersection near Dickinson.
