MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Twenty years ago this week, one of the most devastating storms in U.S. history changed the rhythm of an entire region.
Hurricane Katrina silenced the streets of New Orleans, but many of their musicians found a rebirth in Memphis.
Among those who lost everything in New Orleans was saxophonist Brian "Breeze" Cayolle.
"Originally, they said 'oh, the storm was going to turn and go up towards Florida.' It was going to turn, it was going to turn, it was going to turn, and it looked like it wasn't going to turn,'" Cayolle said.
A New Orleans native whose home, and heart, were nearly washed away.
"I went back to my house, and it had two watermarks on it," Cayolle stated.
He said it wasn't just things he lost, it was his sense of place. His sense of peace.
