Memphis, Tenn - Memphis Light, Gas and Water says some customers could smell gas in the air one day next week.

MLGW crews will be doing some routine maintenance involving mercaptan on Wednesday, September 3 at Germantown Parkway and Chimneyrock Boulevard, then at Airways Boulevard and Stateline Road.

The work will begin at 7 a.m.

Mercaptan is the chemical odorant added to natural gas to give it a rotten egg or sulfur smell, making it easily detectable.

During the maintenance, people living in the area may notice this odor in the air.
