Pete Mauro has held jobs in retail and insurance, but he’s always been drawn to helping students so it seems fitting that he would become a counselor. In fact, he was recently awarded Counselor of the Year for Ector County ISD.
This is the start of his sixth year as a counselor at Bonham Middle School. He has been with ECISD for 11 years as an English teacher and football coach.
“I was so thrilled and excited,” Mauro said of receiving the recognition. “It is a team award. I am part of a great team. Mrs. (Tricia) Mauro, for sure the other counselor, Joneisha Lopez … and then the Bonham administration and these wonderful students and teachers. It’s a team award. I just got my name on it.”
