PIKEVILLE, Ky. (WYMT) - The University of Pikeville’s Tanner College of Dental Medicine is preparing to take root.

UPIKE hosted a news conference Friday, announcing the USDA recently approved a Community Facilities Direct Loan for the completion of the incoming dental school.

“It’s so monumental, but this in particular stands out because we can see the tangible results of the efforts,” said Dean of Tanner College of Dental Medicine, Dr. Jill Keaton.

Representatives from the USDA Rural Development discussed the $53.2 million loan, saying it is about more than just the Pikeville dental school.

“It represents an investment in this part of the state. It represents an investment in rural Kentucky that’s gonna be felt for generations,” said Kentucky Director of USDA Rural Development Travis
