A Bridgeport democratic city councilor is facing more charges in connection to an investigation into ballot mishandling during the 2023 election.

The Chief State's Attorney's Office said Alfredo Castillo, 53, is facing new charges for allegedly misusing absentee ballots during the democratic primary election.

Castillo was arrested on Friday and is facing charges including four counts of possession of restricted ballots and envelopes, failure to sign as assister on an absentee ballot and misrepresenting eligibility requirements for voting by absentee ballot.

He was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 2.
