A settlement may be close in a long-running lawsuit involving the town of Miami, Ottawa County property owners and the Grand River Dam Authority.

Miami Mayor Bless Parker said Friday his city and the other plaintiffs have agreed in principle to a $10.5 million settlement in the 17-year-old case alleging the GRDA's management of Pensacola Dam and Grand Lake causes upstream flooding.

Parker said the Miami City Council agreed this week to the deal, with a few amendments that must be accepted by the GRDA.

"It wasn't what we were after," Parker said, "but GRDA did what it said it would do. It wore us down."

GRDA officials said the state-owned utility would have no comment until the deal is finalized, which is expected in the next 30-60 days.
