KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A task force consisting of the Downtown Council of Kansas City, business owners, the city, police and others was created the week of Sunday, August 17, according to Downtown Council Chair Gib Kerr. They're trying to keep that part of the city both clean and safe.

The Downtown Community Improvement District has armed guards that roam Grand Boulevard from 6th Street on the north 14th Street, but their hours are from 2 p.m. until midnight. The shooting on Sunday, Aug. 24, happened around 4 a.m.

Kerr said the new task force will likely decide what kind of additional help is needed in the early morning hours and whether armed guards will be a part of that. Business owners are telling him, though, that the current conditions on the Grand Corridor are not acceptable.
