City officials did not specify what the threat was and stated it was merely a “safety concern” before asking the audience to exit the building.

Further reasoning for evacuation was not offered to the public.

“The concern was specific in nature and credible enough that we could not in good conscience proceed with the meeting,” said Tempe Assistant Police Chief James Sweig.
