Abundant Harvest, a community food bank and kitchen, has announced it will close its doors on Oct. 1 or when current supplies are gone.
Abundant Harvest is operated in conjunction with the Emporia Rescue Mission. The Emporia Rescue Mission Board of Directors says the lack of financial donations and volunteer support is the cause of the closure.
Shortly before the announcement was made, Abundant Harvest was posting on social media about food giveaways and a community meal currently being served. Employees of Abundant Harvest were given no advance notice of the closure, according to a post on the Abundant Harvest Facebook page.
In a press release sent to The Emporia Gazette, the board of directors says the men’s shelter, Emporia Rescue Mission, will continue operation.
