Newman Regional Health has reported that the cause of Thursday’s shooter alarm activation was a third-party vendor working on a wall close to the pull station, on the second floor of the hospital. The emergency switch was never physically pulled.
“We believe it's reasonable to assume that either the work that was being done jiggled the inner workings of the pull station enough that it triggered it or potentially a screw may have nicked or penetrated the line,” Kacie Hastings, Public Relations Coordinator at Newman said. “We are going to open up that wall and take a look to see, for sure.”
As of now, there is no plan to update the infrastructure of the alarm system. Shooter pull alarms can be found on multiple floors throughout Newman. Hastings stated that the system operated as intended.
