YORKTOWN, Va. — Firefighters in York County responded to reports of heavy smoke at a senior living community on Friday morning.

It was traced to a fire in the kitchen area of one of the units at Harper's Station on Victory Boulevard, but maintenance staff were able to put it out before firefighters arrived.

There was minor damage to that one unit, but no one was hurt. Out of an abundance of caution, neighboring residents were temporarily relocated to the building's cafeteria or sheltered in place as crews worked to ventilate the building and clear it of any remaining smoke.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
