GREENVILLE, S.C. (WSPA) - The City of Greenville is set to transform a long-vacant site into a vibrant cityscape with the Gateway Project, which will begin construction in September.

Approved by the city council, the Gateway Project will revitalize the land on North Church Street near the Bon Secours Wellness Arena, which has been vacant for nearly three decades. The plans include improved sidewalks, crosswalks, landscaping, a public plaza, and a public art gallery.

"Tall buildings, I love it. I love it, just gives me city vibes. And I feel like, because Greenville is growing, it's needed," said Jasmine Mathis, a Greenville resident.
