ATHENS, Ga. — The University of Georgia has issued the 'all clear' after a possible shooter was reported near the main library on the Athens campus, according to a notification from the university's emergency information system at 10:40 p.m.
The first notification went out at 8:51 p.m. on Friday, advising UGA students to avoid the area around the main library. First responders were on the scene, according to the university.
The university says UGA police first received a call about a possible shooter around 8:45 p.m. on Friday.
The updates said police were on the scene, and had searched the area, and that "evidence suggests a hoax," about the shooter.
At 10:39 p.m., the university said there was no emergency on campus, and the situation at the main library was all clear.
