ATLANTA — Clark Atlanta University Police have stated that reports of an active shooter on the university's campus are inaccurate and is a hoax.

Authorities said that officials are in the process of investigating and monitoring the situation.

However, a shelter-in-place is in effect "out of an abundance of caution."

The Atlanta Police stated that they were assisting in the investigation earlier.

It comes after the University of Georgia received a similar hoax call about reports of an active shooter.

The FBI in Atlanta stated that it has seen an increase in swatting events at universities and colleges nationwide .
