KANOPOLIS LAKE, Kan. (KSNW) — Weeks after a boating accident at Kanopolis Lake claimed two lives, the only survivor was able to personally thank the man who saved her.
On July 3, a crash on the water left 14-year-old Reagen Dalke struggling alone in the middle of the lake. That’s when Darryl Lee dove in and swam through rough waves to pull her to safety.
“I just kind of saw her and went out and got her,” Lee recalled. “The moment was horrible. The waves were horrible. I saw her out there kind of helpless and just did what you would do.”
Reagen says she remembers the moment vividly. “I was just really thankful that somebody found me,” she said.
Lee’s wife, Liz, described the scene as “sickening and horrifying” to watch unfold from shore.
